Severe toothache, a broken or knocked-out tooth, a lost filling or crown? Call the office nearest you. Same-day emergency appointments are available, and sedation can help if you are anxious.
Available at both offices
Go to the ER or call 911 first if…
You have facial swelling that affects breathing or swallowing, a high fever with facial swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, or a jaw injury after an accident. Then call us for dental follow-up.
What To Do Now
Common Dental Emergencies
General first aid while you get to the office — then call us.
Pain
Severe toothache
Rinse with warm water and gently floss to remove trapped food. A cold compress on the cheek can ease swelling. Do not put aspirin on the gums.
Time matters
Knocked-out tooth
Hold it by the crown, not the root. Rinse gently and keep it moist in milk or saliva. Call immediately — the sooner, the better the chance of saving it.
Damage
Chipped or broken tooth
Rinse your mouth, save any pieces and use a cold compress for swelling. Avoid chewing on that side.
Lost restoration
Lost filling or crown
Keep the crown if you have it and avoid chewing on the tooth. Call us to have it re-cemented or replaced.
Infection
Swelling or abscess
A pimple-like bump on the gum, swelling or a bad taste can signal infection. Rinse with salt water and call us the same day.
Soft tissue
Cut lip, cheek or tongue
Rinse and apply gentle pressure with clean gauze. If bleeding does not stop, go to urgent care.
Why Call Us
Fast, Calm Help for Dental Emergencies
Dental emergencies are stressful, and many people with a sudden toothache have also been putting off the dentist. That is exactly who we are set up for: Dr. Gorman can treat the problem the same day and, if you are anxious, sedation is available.
Many emergencies are caused by infection and are treated with a root canal, followed by a crown. When a tooth cannot be saved, Dr. Gorman will talk you through replacement options such as dental implants.

Questions & Answers
Emergency FAQ
Do you take same-day emergency appointments?
Yes. Same-day emergency appointments are available at both offices. Call Miramar at (954) 433-4300 or Lighthouse Point at (954) 946-8484 as early in the day as you can.
Do you see new patients for emergencies?
Yes. You do not need to be an existing patient to be seen for a dental emergency.
What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe or lingering tooth pain, a knocked-out or broken tooth, a lost crown or filling, swelling, or signs of infection. If you are unsure, call us and we will help you decide.
Can I be sedated for emergency treatment?
In many cases, yes. Nitrous oxide is available right away; oral or IV sedation may require a driver and a quick health review.
